The Wait is Over: The Ford Mustang GT500 760hp V8 Now Available as a Crate Engine
You heard that right. Ford Performance has delivered on its promise of offering the Mustang GT500’s powerful Predator V8 to its line of crate engines. The 5.2 liter engine makes 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque in the GT500, topped by an Eaton TVS R2650 supercharger, featuring forged aluminum pistons, forged steel connecting rods, and a forged steel crankshaft.
Get ready to open up your wallet though, as this monster retails for $25,995. Listed in the Ford Performance catalog as part number M-6007-M52SC, the new crate engine also includes a 92-millimeter throttle body, a supercharger belt, the belt that drives the alternator and the water pump, the left and right exhaust manifolds, the starter, the alternator, and the air conditioning compressor. Ford says the dry weight tops out at 536 lbs. In its as sold form, the engine will come with a 2 year, 24,000 mile factory warranty.
The crate motor is intended as a direct replacement of the Predator V8 found in the GT500, but it will be interesting to see what applications buyers decide to actually shoehorn it in. I’m imagining the possibilities now… Speaking of that, wiring it up in a new application will take some work.
